Editorial Standards
Our commitment to neutrality, source verification, and editorial independence.
Purple Voice operates on a single principle: receipts, not rhetoric. Every claim we make links to its source. Every vote count, bill summary, and contribution record comes from official government databases. We don’t tell you what to think. We show you what happened, with the evidence to verify it yourself.

Every Fact Links to Its Source
No orphaned claims. Every vote record, bill text, contribution filing, and court decision links directly to the issuing agency. If we cite it, you can verify it.
⚖️
No Editorial Agenda
We do not endorse candidates. We do not take policy positions. Our role is to publish the record — voting history, funding sources, legislative text — and let readers draw their own conclusions.
🛡️
Advertiser Independence
Advertisers fund the infrastructure. They do not influence content. No sponsor can suppress a data point, alter a vote record, or request removal of unflattering facts.

Vote Positions Recorded
Every record links to its official source. Updated daily.
Data vs. Analysis vs. Opinion
We distinguish three forms of content, and we mark them clearly:
- Data: Vote records, bill text, contribution filings, court dockets. No commentary. Just the record, linked to its source.
- Analysis: Connecting dots — voting patterns, funding trends, legislative impact. Always labeled “Analysis” and always grounded in cited data.
- Opinion: Rare. When we publish guest commentary or editorials, they are marked “Opinion” in the headline and byline. They do not represent Purple Voice’s institutional stance.
Most of what you read on Purple Voice is data. Analysis appears in deep-dive articles and is clearly labeled. Opinion is the exception, not the rule.
How We Handle Opinion
Purple Voice does not take policy positions. We do not endorse candidates. We do not publish “What Congress Should Do Next” editorials.
Occasionally, we publish guest opinion pieces from subject-matter experts or stakeholders. These are:
- Marked “Opinion” in the headline
- Bylined to the author, not Purple Voice staff
- Accompanied by a disclaimer that views expressed are the author’s
Our institutional voice remains neutral. Always.
Source Verification
Every fact on Purple Voice originates from a primary or authoritative secondary source. We do not republish claims from other news outlets without independent verification.
Primary sources we use:
Legislative & Voting Records
- Congress.gov (Library of Congress)
- U.S. Senate Roll Call Votes
- U.S. House Clerk Vote Database
- Congressional Record
Campaign Finance
- Federal Election Commission filings
- Senate Lobbying Disclosure Database
Judicial & Legal Records
- PACER (federal court dockets)
- Supreme Court opinions (supremecourt.gov)
- Justice Department press releases
Member Information
- House.gov and Senate.gov official bios
- Congressional Biographical Directory
When we use secondary sources (news reports, academic studies), we evaluate their methodology and cross-reference their claims with primary documents. If we cannot verify a claim, we do not publish it.
For a detailed breakdown of how we collect and normalize data, see our Methodology page.
Advertiser Independence
Purple Voice accepts advertising to fund operations. Advertisers have zero influence over editorial decisions.
What Advertisers Fund
- Server infrastructure
- Data refreshes and maintenance
- Editorial staff salaries
- Public access to all records
What Advertisers Cannot Do
- Suppress unfavorable data
- Request removal of records
- Influence which votes we track
- Alter bill summaries or vote tallies
Firewall Policy
- Editorial decisions made independently
- Ad sales team has no content input
- Sponsorships are clearly labeled
- No “pay-to-suppress” arrangements
If a legislator’s voting record contradicts an advertiser’s interests, we publish the voting record. Every time.
Corrections & Accountability
We make mistakes. When we do, we correct them transparently.
Our correction policy:
- Minor errors (typos, formatting) are corrected silently with a timestamp note.
- Factual errors (wrong vote count, misattributed quote, incorrect date) are corrected with an inline notice at the top of the article explaining what was wrong and when it was fixed.
- Significant errors (misidentified member, incorrect vote outcome) trigger a standalone correction notice and an entry in our public Corrections Log.
If you spot an error, email [email protected]. We investigate every claim and respond within 48 hours.
📊 Transparency in Practice
Across 916 published articles and 11,596 aggregated news items, we maintain a public corrections log. Errors are rare because our content is data-driven, not interpretive — but when they occur, we own them.
Frequently Asked
Does Purple Voice endorse candidates?
No. We do not endorse candidates, parties, or policy positions. We publish voting records, contribution data, and legislative history. Voters decide what those records mean.
How is Purple Voice funded?
Through advertising, newsletter subscriptions, and institutional partnerships. Advertisers fund infrastructure; they do not influence editorial decisions. No advertiser can suppress data or request content changes.
What’s the difference between your Methodology page and this one?
The Methodology page explains how we collect and process data — refresh schedules, normalization rules, data sources. This page explains how we conduct ourselves editorially — neutrality, sourcing standards, corrections policy, advertiser independence.
Can I trust the vote counts and bill summaries?
Every vote count and bill summary links to its official source — Congress.gov, the House Clerk, or the Senate. If you see a discrepancy, click the source link and verify. If the source link is wrong, report it to [email protected].
Do you publish opinion pieces?
Rarely, and only as clearly labeled guest commentary. Purple Voice staff do not write opinion pieces. Our institutional voice remains neutral and data-focused.
How do I report an error?
Email [email protected] with the URL, the error, and the correct information (with a source link if possible). We investigate every report and respond within 48 hours.
